Binding Binge

When you quilt up three tops in short order, it means there is a lot of binding in your future!  I spent most of yesterday cutting, piecing and attaching binding to the 2 charity chop quilts.  I really don't enjoy how fussy it is to make a scrappy binding, yet I seem to do it all.the.time.  =O

Finn decided to 'help' me with all of this work!  Oh my!!   I managed to finish the machine portion on these 2 quilts and have the binding cut and assembled for Galaxy of Stars.

I did manage to do a teeny-tiny bit of other sewing, too. Two more blocks for Mad Mod's Block Lotto.  This brings my total to 4.

And-- a LOVELY package arrived from Thousands of Bolts!  I decided that I am going to participate in Bonnie Hunter's 2017 Mystery Quilt!  Woooot!  Her name is 'On Ringo Lake'.  I might pick another name, but for now that will do.  The colors sounded really appealing (aqua, coral, chocolate) and I'm in a pretty good place with my other projects--  why not?!?!? =)

I need more neutrals, so I poked around online.  The aquas are so enticing! I got a few more browns, should have picked out more corals and managed to throw in a few other 'extra' fabrics to the order.  Bonnie's Facebook Open Studio Page has a lot of activity about the mystery quilt and many people are sharing their fabric pulls.  I'm tempted to use cool greys instead of creams.  The first clue doesn't come out until Black Friday, so I've got some time to decide.

Kristin

Sew many things!

I was fortunate to be able to spend some time sewing yesterday and last Saturday.  Fortunate?-- I (once again) postponed many chores (haircut, grocery shopping, housecleaning, etc) to quilt.  Who needs a stocked pantry, clean bedroom or trimmed hair?  But my hair is getting out of control!

Last Saturday, I did a bit of garment sewing and made flannel jammie pants.  My limited experience sewing clothes hasn't been enjoyable, but my friend Amy was a fantastic tutor!  They turned out pretty good!  One modification that I'll be making is to add a drawstring to the waistband.  The elastic isn't quite snug enough.

Yesterday, I worked on a lot of things I wanted to have finished for last Thursday's Mad Mod meeting.  I had grand ambitions to enter 4 blocks for the block lotto and didn't have time to get them done.  Now I'm wondering if I should consider this a new project and make enough for an entire quilt?  I kinda like the pattern and color scheme...  So far, I have 3 blocks complete and the fourth is just waiting for 1 more half square triangle.

One of the charity blocks Mad Mod is working on is a wonky log cabin super hero block.  They are about 14" blocks (huge!). Many people had theirs complete for this week's meeting.  Mine will have to wait for next month.

My 2 blocks:

Here are the guild's charity blocks at last Thursday's meeting:

Exciting news--

(well, not that exciting) I have decided on a setting for the leader/ender 4 patches that I've been accumulating for ages.  I've seen this pattern before, but the light bulb clicked when I saw Tanya in Colorado's version.  I'm 99% certain that the backgroud is going to be a royal-ish blue. Very vibrant!  I've been focusing on sewing my 4 patches into 16 patches.  I can't wait to cut some of the blue and see how it will work together!

Here's a picture of my entire design wall.  It's looking a little (ok, A LOT) ADD right now.

To wrap up, I'll share a little stash acquisition I did when I was at Stitcher's Crossing for the Mad Mod Meeting and link up with the Fabulous Molli Sparkles for Sunday Stash:

Happy New Year - 2014!

My 2013 New Year's Resolution was to resume blogging.  I didn't succeed. =(  But today is a new year and a new start!  I've done so many crafty things and they aren't being chronicled.  Perhaps I will re-visit some of the things I have done in my blogging gap?  But for now I'll dive in with my current projects.

Last night I finished the December/January Block Lotto block for the Madison Modern Quilt Guild.  After sharing it on Facebook this morning, I realized I put the quadrants together wrong.  Ooops.

I spent much of December working on Elizabeth Hartman's Catvent quilt along.
Here are my 25 cat blocks.  I hope to finish the top at my winter retreat.

Another December project was putting together some orphan squares I was gifted years ago into a top.  I'm quite pleased with how it turned out!  Now to quilt it up and (probably?) give it to charity.

The last thing I will share today is a little something I thought I could whip together to decorate my cube for Christmas.  I got stuck deciding how to border it.  I love the tree fabric, but the black holiday fabric seems to go better.  Do a use a skinny black border (1/2"?) and then a 2" trees?  Or just use 2" of the black and put the trees on the back?  I can't decide!!

Welcome back to blogging to me!  =)

Happy 2014!!
